As I think about my writing habits I’m glad to see that because I’m retired I can write pretty much whenever I like. Not being a morning person, however, means that I tend to write throughout the afternoon and evening, although I can’t count late morning out. I seem to need some activity in my day before I get going writing, otherwise it often feels that I’m writing in a vacuum. So I get up, do the usual morning routine, accomplish some things around the house, make phone calls, check email. Then, after I feel a little more connected to the day, I check in to my blogs and begin the “conversations” that arrive in my mind.
Some people, I know, do their best work in the morning. My brother, for example, although he’s not a writer, gets up between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning (middle of the night to me), and by 10:30 has had lunch and a nap. He is most productive that early in the day. Me? That would knock me for a loop! So we need to pay attention to our body rhythms, and use our energy when it’s at its peak.
When is that for you?

Normally I write from the time the teacher hands me the test until I finish writing the answers.
I don’t have a set time of day I can write. Sometimes I get up and can write from the off and have no problem, tonight it’s 21:10 and I’m still re-writing a chapter of my book. When I get into the zone I can write. Time of day not always important.
